Hi Guys,
Have a good read of this to see the best tactics to use.
Wake Island
'Tales From a Dead Soldier'
By Teddy '-1313-Evil_Homer' Pierson
Wake Island is one of the most robust maps in the game. It offers a bit of everything from aircrafts, to tanks, to naval support. This map can serve up some fierce battles and a lot of fun, letting you dive bomb from an aircraft, tank attacks, jeep ramming, sniping, or navel punishment. This map is surely a favorite for many soldiers.
The first objective your team needs to achieve is to take a capture point on the Island. This will then allow ground troops to spawn on land instead of sea. First air support needs to take off and head for the two south tips of the island. They need to lay as many bombs as they can to wipe out any residence in these areas.
This will pave the way for the on coming landing crafts to hit shore.
You need to hit both northwest side points at roughly the same time. The best was to achieve this is through sheer force or special opt teams. You need to capture these to points to slowly take control of the island. With any luck, the air strike will wipe out all enemy troops and leave the two waiting tanks at each point. Once you have established control of these two points, its time to move east.
Armed with the two tanks and a force of troops, you can move towards the next capture points. Ideally, a special opts team should be making there way to the main airfield on the island coming in from behind (north). Sneaking behind the airplane, the ammo shed will always make for a sneaky entrance. If successful, this will set your team up for the old ‘pinch-a-roo’ treatment, allowing you to squeeze the enemy from both the north and south, creating a massive double choke point scenario, forcing your enemy to defend rather then attacking.
A few soldiers should be moving up along the sides of the island heading for flag points.
This is very effective when the rest of your team is fighting head on with the enemy. The head on fighting will keep most of the enemy busy, allowing you to sneak right by them for the flank.
Allied
Being on the defending end of the battle you need to be alert of your surroundings. The main point of attack from the enemy will be along the shore lines. There should be a scout scanning each side of the island for enemy boats. This will alert all troops where the enemy is trying to enter the island. Lingering around the shore lines will be most effective.
You have control of the airfield, so use it! All your planes should be airborne and on route to the enemy ships out at sea. You need to stop the enemy aircrafts that launch from the carrier at all costs [Image Intel]. Since enemy aircrafts posses the biggest threat to the island, do not stop the air show for the entire battle. Pilots should also alert everyone of the locations of oncoming enemy landing crafts, as well as the movement of the enemy navy.
Soldiers should be arming the AA guns to battle those 'less then zeros' that will be buzzing around all over the skies. Taking out aircraft should be one of your highest priorities. Watch out for 'plane jumpers'. If you hear a plane suddenly go quite, the odds are someone is bailing out and coming after your base.
Once the enemy takes a control point inside the map, its time to switch to pure defensive mode. You need to create a wall of soldiers facing the enemy flag and stop all attempts to over throw you. Remembering that the enemy will try to sneak in to your base, so keep an eye on the shore lines for movement. If you see enemy movement, give a call out 'enemy troops spotted'.
If you have tank on the base that is being attacked, place it well behind the enter point. Putting a tank right up front and in the fine of fire is not wise. Tanks are meant to be off in the distance while shelling out their hell.
Some soldiers should be focusing on taking out the enemies naval support. Crippling them can be a turning point in the battle. Try to always have someone arming the big artillery guns. Even if you have to keep moving from gun to gun along the coast. A consent shelling of the navy will surely sink them to the bottom of the ocean.
Combat
During combat you have many options and tactics to play your deadly game with. If you are piloting the landing craft to come ashore, turn the engines off well before hitting the beach (press E). This will make your approach more stealth-like and allow you to be up front so you can exit quickly. Also, when piloting the craft use the external view so you can see all your surroundings. Once on shore take a quick look around to make sure there are no waiting enemies ready to send you to an early grave.
When moving from location to location, try to stay low and out of sight. Using the beach line and/or weaving in and out of trees can be ideal for this task. The gentle rolling hills of the island can conceal you most of the time, especially the outer shell of the island. You can use these passageways to sneak up on enemy bases and plan attacks. The flanking maneuver can be used a lot on this map. Example, if you are running towards another player in the distance. Try to duck and come around them from the sides or behind. Most people will continue running straight, allowing you to flank them for the kill.
Snipers have it good on this battlefield, which offers many prime locations for killing people from a distance. This map is basically filled with narrow roads that stretch around the ‘U’ shaped island. These narrow spaces provide a fun house for snipers. Since everyone must travel these roads while going from base to base, this leaves them wide open. The terrain has many nice spots to dwell and hunt from. The soft flowing hills on the ridge provide ideal locations. These spots are often populated with small brush to take cover behind. There are also few locations that you can go to on the top of bunkers. These are also lovely spots to scope prey from. Another great role of the sniper on this map is to scout and paint targets for the large artillery guns on land or sea.
Anti-Tank personnel can be very handy on this island. There are many tanks and transport vehicles to destroy. The best method is to sneak up on vehicles from behind. On this map this can be achieved rather easily due to the hills and bunkers spread out throughout the map. If you see a tank rolling into your base, do not make yourself known. Duck and hide out of sight and work your way around it. Element of surprise is key to taking out a tank. Once you’re behind the tank aim for the top half of the engine. Fire a shot and quickly duck out of the way and sneak up from a different location.
When defending a position you should spread out by the entrances to the base. Do not bunch up out in clear sight. Place the tank in the middle of the road and have infantry flank the area. Having a few men on either side of the entrance is ideal for invading a sneak attack. This will also provide cover and warning of where enemy troop movement is coming from. Also, take note on who is defending the base with you. If you notice that one of the soldiers you were defending with gets killed, that is a good reference on where enemy troops are entering. Scouts can make or break your team. Having a few good scouts can really help your team kill more people and own more land.
Use of the big artillery gun at the airfield can be ideal for holding the enemy at bay. Nothing stops enemy advancement like the huge shells of these beasts. The best way them is with a scout. Give a call out that you need a target. Once a scout paints one for you, its time to unleash hell upon your enemies. You can even do this by yourself, that is, if you are a scout.
Axis
On the Axis side you have the pride of the Japan navy. One of which is the mighty battleship. This vessel can blow the hell out of any location on the map. There are not many places to hide your navy but best location is slightly behind the airfield. This location is ideal for blasting any base on the map, but you first must take out the one anti-ship artillery gun. Once that is blown to bits you can unleash your hell. This is great to flatten the waiting aircrafts at the base. The navy has to watch out for dive-bombers. Always try to have a soldier arming the AA guns on the ships. These locations are the best for shooting down enemy aircrafts. You have a higher percentage of surviving a bombing run; this is due to the fact that you are somewhat shielded by the ships’ massive structure.
For serious teams that want to win, you should be using a voice chat program. One of the best is Roger Wilco. Nothing is more vital to a team then open voice communications. Allowing you to direct each other better and give detailed intel about changing situations. All of this will give you and your team the edge in battle.
